They can be of very serious nature which is again irrespective of the size and type of crack. Various types are hairline wall crack, basement window crack and stair step block cracks. Most of the crack takes in place in block or concrete foundations. It takes place when the materials used in foundation dry and tighten up. The best way to monitor a crack is check the width of the crack. Anybody can make a mark on the wall and accordingly measure it with the ruler to determine the thickness of crack in millimetres.
Stair Step Crack
As the name suggests that these cracks are found in concrete block or brick walls and it causes lot of trouble. It is crack found in brick or block which goes upwards along the mortar joints. These types of cracks are basically resulted from lateral pressure being applied on the star or due to settlement of the materials. The width of the crack ranges from very tiny crack to almost 1 inch. Continuously measuring and monitoring the width and calling the engineer to fix it up are very important. This in turn will reduce the risk at later stage.
Gap Ceiling
Gaps or crack near the ceiling area occur mainly due to attic trusses which changes the shape in winter time and progresses upwards. Due to the change in shape and upwards movement, a bend can be noticed in the ceilings and especially near the centre of trusses. These cracks come back to normal position during the summer time. The best solution to get rid of this cracks are to apply simple clips between the trusses and interior walls. It is also called as crown molding because it is the junction where the wall and the ceiling meet and it is the highest or uppermost molding in any construction.
Concrete Block Foundation Crack
These are mostly dangerous cracks are they are found in concrete block foundations. If the cracks go up wide enough at the top, it simply applies that the top ends of the blocks are simply dropping down or the centre of the foundation is heavy or progressing upwards whereas if the crack at the bottom of the block is wider then it is straightforward that the end of the blocks at the bottom are tearing apart or centre of foundation is very heavy or dropping down. These types of crack need detailed and specific attention as they can cause serious trouble to the construction.
Slab Foundation Crack
These types of slabs are very famous and popular across the nation. It can easily crack the whole foundation or even the entire construction. These crack range from simple shrinkage kind of crack to actual settlement cracks which can cause very serious damage. It is basically observed when the foundation is laid or poured on soil which is of very low or poor quality.
